Cambridge Christ's - Student View

A medium-sized college with both traditional Cambridge college buildings and more controversial 1960s architecture (New Court at the back of college a prime example). The most central college, within 5 minutes of 2 cinemas. banks, nightclubs and 14 pubs.

A broad mix of subjects and approx equal state and independent school backgrounds. International students in each year from all over the world; not many mature students. Friendly and sociable place with an enthusiastic student executive despite the usual apathy. One of the best colleges academically but don't take its reputation too seriously.

First and third years live in college; half of second years in college-owned houses. Rooms vary from adequate and purely functional to almost penthouse style; and from the new Hobson Street development to Milton's old room. Kitchens provided to give an alternative to cheap but mundane Upper Hall food. Formal hall, available every night except Saturday, makes a pleasant and still affordable change.

Two college bars: the Buttery (popular and friendly) and the Late Night Bar in New Court (small but cosy and quite lively). Party room, JCR, TV room, theatre, library, music practice rooms and squash courts are all available for students. Ents are well-attended.

Sports clubs (and associated drinking societies) are active and cater for all shapes and sizes; very successful teams in rowing, rugby and football. Christ's arguably best film society in Cambridge and drama is alive and kicking. Music socs of all types can be found here: choral, classical, contemporary etc. Student exec is always ready to support new clubs in college.
