Housing: Private accommodation can be pricey; accommodation office helps find it.

Eats: Meals £2+ on campus. SU good range of food at most sites especially at Frenchay (Escape) and St Matts. University prices fairly high. Gloucester Road is takeaway heaven; Whiteladies Road is bistro heaven; good choice of south american restaurants in central Bristol; a million greasy spoons locally.

Drink: Lots of good places to drink (400+ pubs in Bristol central region). SU bars are cheapest (pint £1.50+). Popular student pubs: The Bristol Flyer, The Hobgoblin (Gloucester Road); Cadbury House (Montpelier); The Steam Tavern, The Dog and Duck (Clifton). Smiles good local brew.

Nightlife: Regular campus events - comedy clubs, dance nights, balls (termly), karaoke etc. Escapism at Frenchay every Friday (popular sounds and late bar), Cheesebox, Popshop at St Matts. Well-established and expanding gay scene. Locals: Not friendly but not aggressive either.

Sports: Over 100 different clubs. Campus sports facilities very poor (but watch this space). Travel: Travel shop; Endsleigh insurance at Frenchay.

Financial help: Various funds for different students, administered by uni.

Jobs: Union-run Job shop, helps find work on and off campus. Usual bar, security, catering, events, shop work plus Playscheme and admin. Union pays £4+/hour. Plenty of work in town.

Best features: The people.

And worst: Too many people!
