Ideas for Cheap Backpacking Holidays When You’re a Student

As a student wanting to see the world, a backpacking holiday is a great idea, but with so many options available for places to travel around the world, knowing some of the destinations that are going to be on the cheaper end of the scale will mean that you get more for your money when you do travel.

Part of your selection process will be affected by how long you plan to travel for. If you’re limited to just a couple of weeks, then it’s better to pick places that are nearer to home, and closer together, this way you’ll spend less of your time travelling from one place to another, and will have more time to enjoy the places that you visit.

So, where to go? Well one of the best ways of picking where you go, is to make a list of all the places you’d like to see, and why, and then use that list as a starting point. From here, you can look into which are the cheaper options, how much time you’d want there, and whether some are closer together than others making them more obvious choices for ease of travelling from one to the other. For example, if your list included The West Indies, Australia, Japan, China, and New Zealand, it might be more sensible to look at Australia and New Zealand as places you could see in the same trip as geographically they’re closer together. When you look at the cost of visiting these places, Australia can be one place where there is a lot to see, and there are a variety of cheap options in terms of travel to get there, and travel once you are there making it a better option in many ways than New Zealand so you might decide that you’d do both, but spend 5 weeks in Australia and only 1 in New Zealand for example.

If you were looking at fitting in a couple more countries in the same trip, then places such as Thailand and Cambodia are excellent places to visit, and would be worth considering as again, they can be areas which can be visited reasonably cheaply, and are reasonably close for getting from one location to the next. Food and drink in Thailand is pretty cheap, and as quite a lot of people chose this destination, there are a good amount of places to stay that might suit a back packer too.

When you plan your route and itinerary you’ll probably want to try and fit as much in as possible, but do try to leave space for flexibility. Ridged planning for a trip like this doesn’t always work, and you might hear of somewhere fantastic that wasn’t on your itinerary that you’d love to see and its better sometimes to take the opportunities when they arise rather than say no and regret not taking a chance. Do however, make sure you stay safe, and don’t risk travel to a country where you could subject yourself to a disease that you’ve not been immunised against.
