The Advantages of Living in a City Apartment

The topic of student living is surrounded by clichés. Chat to someone about student life and you are likely to hear talk of students eating tin upon tin of beans, spending hours relaxing in the pub and in bed and of course tales of living in grotty houses with mould problems and tattered carpets. The reality is that many of these elements of living the student lifestyle are optional; particularly the part about living in a grotty shared house.

Nowadays students who are moving into their second year and beyond have a surprisingly large choice of accommodation options when studying away from home - particularly those studying within cities. Rather than living in old dilapidated terraced houses out in the sticks, many students now choose to live in modern stylish apartments within the city centre. With a host of affordable but stylish apartment blocks having been built in recent years in city centres around the country, individual students and groups can now choose a more convenient and stylish living option.

One of the main advantages of choosing a city centre apartments is that students live in the heart of the action. By choosing accommodation such as flats in Birmingham or Manchester city centre, or city centre flats to rent in Leeds, students are placed within easy walking distances of their campuses, meaning they can enjoy that little bit longer in bed and make a considerable saving on travel costs. Firstly there’s no need to invest in a bus pass to get to university or the shops, and perhaps more importantly if we return to the student clichés – there will be no expensive taxi rides home after a night at the bars and clubs either.

Being in the city centre has advantages for making as well as saving money as well. Basing yourself in the cultural and retail hub of a city makes you more flexible and allows you more time for part time work which can ease the financial strains of study. Up-to-date and well-kept flats can also offer bill savings when compared to living in older shared houses. Double glazing and insulation which come as standard within new flat and apartment complexes could help you make savings on your heating bills and splash your cash elsewhere.

As well as having a high standard of basic living, city centre flats often provide an extra level of comfort which is still not beyond the financial reach of students. Many new builds come furnished with flat screen TVs, leather sofas and even walk in showers or corner baths. And of course you can expect to have a nice clean lino floor rather than a tatty worn carpet.
